Green Hills CC 2025

We had a good turnout at Green Hills Country Club, we filled our field of 32, then the club let us add another foursome to bring the field size to 36. We also held our club's qualifier for the NCGA Associate Club Championship. We had 6 twosomes competing to fill one foursome. This old McKenzie course was in great shape. Upon arrival, the day felt warm and windy. It turned out to be wild and woolly out there! Dave Marshall did a great job as host and the Director of Golf at Green Hills, Morgan Davies (formerly of Contra Costa C.C.) was very accommodating.

Green Hills was generous in allowing us access to their club. Pre-round, we enjoyed the McKenzie Dining room for lunch, and post-round, we had access to the Sunset room or the same room. The pre-round lunch was well attended, giving our members a chance to socialize with players they don’t usually get paired with. We gathered in the McKenzie room again post-round, where we enjoyed bar snacks, refreshments, and golf-horror stories of putts rolling on seemingly forever.

As far as the golf, the wind was blowing hard from the start and maintained its velocity the entire round. The back nine especially felt like there were only a couple of holes where the wind helped.

Aside from the wind, the players had to deal with the fast and difficult-to-read greens, said by the course to be rolling at an 11 on the stimpmeter. I believe it, even though most of us amateurs have no idea what an 11 is. We had 12 footers that rolled 40 feet off the green, one that rolled off the green into a bunker, and more four putts than should be allowed, and that was just my ball! I kid. I didn’t roll one into the bunker, another in our foursome did that. I think the craziness was pretty universal, I’m told by another that more than one in their group 3-putted with a bunker shot in between the 1st and 2nd putts.

All this is to forewarn you not think you could have done better than our winners! Congratulations to all the winners! And winners keep an eye out for your prize winnings arriving by email from WorldwideGolf. It may go to your Junk Spam or Other email folder.

NCGA 43rd ASSOCIATE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING

Concurrent with the rest of our Green Hills CC tournament, we held our club qualifying for the NCGA Associate Club Championship.

Here are the results:

1. Mathew Yamagata/Eric Ingraham -13 Very impressive, especially considering the wind. They shot a net -8 on the back. That's tough to beat!

2. Thomas Brooks/Dave Marshall -7

3. Geoff Cohen/Robert Hamburger -6

4. Jon Prezalar/Brett Pedersen-5

5. Nolan Lowry/ Baxter Quinn-4

6. Adam Koss/ Tom D'Amato -they'd rather not discuss it but they each won a CTP!

Mat, Eric, Thomas and Dave are moving on to the regional qualifier as a 4-man team on July 31st at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento. Should they qualify there, they'll move on to the Championship at Bayonet and Black Horse on August 25th and 26th! Best of luck, gentlemen!

NCGA Qualifiers earn 25 Bridgett Points.
