Sequoyah CC 2025
A great day on the course at Sequoyah Country Club in the hills of Oakland. Two of our members play out of Sequoyah, Vishnu Ramaswamy and Che Hashim. Thank you to Vishnu and congrat.s to Che on becoming a member at Sequoyah. Now, Che, if only you can bring your handicap down as steadily as Vishnu has! A great day on the course (more on that) was followed by a great snack set-up in the clubhouse. While everyone enjoyed a refreshment and nachos, including the melted nacho cheese, shredded cheese, lettuce, refried beans and meat to cover your chips we presented Rob Hamburger with his plaque to celebrate his hole-in-one last month (see below). We gave out our customary golf balls, and we read the incorrect winners, but correct CTPs.
Our day at Sequoyah started in the high 60s as the early arrivers mingled on the driving range and putting green. It would warm up to at least 72 degrees. There was a slight breeze, not more than 7 mph, outside of a few gusts, not enough to cool it down at its warmest. The course was fun, in its usual superior shape. The greens were fast downhill, also as usual. And tough to read. Speed was crucial. Better to be short than roll past the hole and downhill another five, six feet or more.
We had some winners in the tournament proper, and lots of winners in our first skins game within the tournament. First, in the tournament proper:
Gross Score Winners
Mat Yamagata, 78
Sancha Bhukkarat, 82
Nolan Lowry, 83
Net Score Winners
Che Hashim , 70
Thomas Brooks, 71
Robert Hamburger, 73
Closest to the Hole
Hole # 2: Sancha Bahukkarat 15'4"
Hole #5: Nick Belair, 14' 0"
Hole #12: Mat Yamagata 19'1"
Hole #17: Baxter Quinn 10' 8"
Special shout out to my playing partners Jim Rush and Nick Belair for hitting it stiff on hole #14 a 218 yard par three not used in the CTP contest.
Skins Game
Big shout out to Terry Szucsko, with help from Mat Yamagata and Eric Ingrahm, in running our first skins game. Of the 23 players, 19 participated. This was a cash day-of game. $20 buy-in. We had 7 winners to split the pot! That's a large number of winners to split a skins game with 19 players. Winning $50/skin was Thomas Brooks, who won two, Eric Ingraham, Sancha Bhukkarat, Terry Szucsko, Che Hashim and Gary Stokes.
Congratulations all, nice playing!
