Marin CC 2025

Twenty-Four of us teed off on a beautiful and hot afternoon at Marin Country Club.  Thank you to Josh Brownstein for hosting us.  We hope to do it again next year (more on that later).  The temperature was over 90 degrees, causing some of our walking golfers to ride carts.
First off, big CONGRATULATIONS, go out to Bill Foster for his hole-in-one!  Bill describes it himself, “It was the par 3 sixth at Marin CC, a downhill hole that was playing 117 yards.  The pin was cut left center.  There was a soft wind swirling, slightly hurting.  I hit a gap wedge and purred it.  The ball never left the flag.  It hit just beyond the hole and spun back into the cup.  Pandemonium on the tee box.  A moment of golf magic.  The very next hole, I teed up the same ball and blasted it over a fence.  Gone forever but it'd already done its job.”  His playing partners called it “a proper hole in one,” and “a thing of beauty the whole way.”
That is the second hole-in-one by a member at one of our events this year!  Special Thank You goes to Mat Yamagata and Geoff Cohen at Steno Court Reporting Service for buying Bill’s hole-in-one celebration.  When Jon Prezalar arrived, he generously donated a Perry’s gift card to the cause.  Thank you Jon!
Before we get to the scores, we need to address an important issue for the Lawyers & Judges Golf Association.  We play most of our events at private clubs.  At these clubs we are guests of the club, and often of one member who hosts us, as Josh did at Marin Country Club.  There is a distinct possibility we will not be invited back to Marin C.C.  Before each tournament we send out a pairings email that contains the pairings and any other course requirements.  Different courses have different rules.  One of the rules we highlighted in this pre-tournament pairings email was the prohibition to driving carts in the rough.  Josh also personally reminded every foursome prior to the round not to drive or park in the rough. This is not the first course we’ve played with that prohibition.  Unfortunately, several of our foursomes ignored it and drove their carts in the rough and even inside red staked areas of creek beds.  As a result, there is a distinct possibility we will not be invited back to Marin Country Club.
